What are some game series you guys think have been led to the barn to be milked? Like, one good thing led to another, and then it led to the company whoring that game series out like there's no tomorrow because it makes them lots of money?

Final Fantasy - From VII on, Square knew all they had to do was remake the same game with different characters and set it in a different place, and it would still sell like hotcakes. Not to mention they can remake a FF game 2-3 times and it'll still make a ton of money.

Guitar Hero - Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: On Tour are leading the GH series to the barn. Especially On Tour, I mean, come on...what's the point of playing GH if there's no GH controller?

Those are the main ones off the top of my head, I may think of more later though.

Heres a few from me:

Grand Theft Auto from III on

Final Fantasy from VII on

Madden from... late 90's on I guess?

There's a lot of others, but my mind is drawing a blank right now.

Most of the EA sports games
The Final Fantasy series (of course, I still play them)
The Def Jam games
Pokemon (but I admit this, they are addicting)
Mario Party

And I'm sure there are more.

Wait, Def Jam games are milked? Wasn't there only like 3 or 4 games in that series so far? Never played them though, but I heard they were decent.

The first one was decent. But I think they went downhill. And, I think it's more who they get to "star" in the game that is milked. But meh, just my opinion.

Yeah, it's definitely whored out with advertising etc.

At least it's not as bad as FF or GTA with a lot of crappy games being hyped to hell.

Well, I think that a lot of games get over-hyped. I mean... I personally find the Zelda series to be over-hyped. I'm not saying it's a bad game but... *shrugs* I'm not a fan.

I thought of another one - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. It started out great but now it's becoming the Madden of skateboarding games.

I was never really into the Tony Hawk games, but I entiely agree on them being over-hyped and over-rated.

There's a lot of other games like that, but i'm too tired to think of them.

The problem I see with Smackdown is that they introduced new elements that totally ruined the gameplay flow. Here Comes The Pain had the best gameplay, because it didn't add too many annoying new elements to kill the enjoyment.

To speak the truth, The Super Mario series seems to be milked...

Sure, they're all oki, but within 20 years, there's, like, 40 or so games...

Though it's been eased up quite a bit, I still should have made my point...

And I agree with all others said...

The reason that Mario is able to get by is because a lot of those Mario games are in different genres, and almost all of the games are incredibly fun.

The only argument that could be made is that Mario, as a character...is definitely milked too much.

Most Nintendo Series. When was the last time they started something completely new? With the N64? The games are fun, but it's just getting silly. It's like Nintendo are trying to say "STOP BUYING OUR GAMES WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS"

You do have a point! At the very least, you would think that Nintendo would resurrect some of their older series that haven't had games in a very long time. What about a new Star Tropics or Kid Icarus? How about a new Punch Out game for that matter?

There are so many things Nintendo could be doing, but now it's all like Mario/Zelda/ Mario Sports/ Metroid/Smash Bros ... it's getting so predictable!

Yeah, take the Gamecube. The only first-party games that weren't sequels/spinoffs were:

1080 Avalanche (Which I'm not 100% sure of.)
Animal Crossing
Custom Robo
Some japan-only quiz game
and Pikmin

Actually, didn't Animal Crossing start on the 64 or is my mind just shot?

Anyway, i'm hoping Nintendo stops being lazy and releases some new stuff again!

1080 Avalanche actually is a sequel, to 1080 Snowboarding on N64.

And Animal Crossing was originally going to be on N64, but they moved it to GCN. I think it may have actually been released on the N64 in Japan though.

But I see where you guys are going. While I love Nintendo's games they are all of the same series. Hopefully they'll catch everyone off guard with a big announcement sometime soon.

"Think they'll put out another Yoshi game?"

Dear God, I hope not. My hatred towards Yoshi is only second to my hatred towards Pokemon.

I honestly think they should make a Pikmin sequel. I know not many liked the series, but, fuck, I loved both those games...especially multiplayer in Pikmin 2.

In an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto about Wii Fit, he also expressed interest in continuing the Pikmin series, so...one can only hope. Very Happy

And more Kirby that isn't Air Ride would be awesome. Air Ride was horrible.

And Yoshi games...lol. Yoshi's Island DS was pretty good, but that's about the only kind of game Yoshi can do by himself.

Also, Donkey Kong needs to stop being a guinea pig and get a new adventure.

Donkey Kong died when Rare left Nintendo.

Sad but true.

Anyway, I really want a new Star Tropics or Punch Out.

Punch-Out!! would be great on the Wii as long as they just made a few tweaks here and there to the Wii Sports boxing game. A DS version wouldn't work out so well though. Heck, I always wanted a GBA Punch-Out!!, but it's too late for that now. Crying or Very sad

I never got into Star Tropics, but it would be a huge move on Nintendo's part to at least bring back a really old series that hasn't had any lovin', if they're not going to put any effort into creating a new series.

Never head of Star Tropics, either...

It also wouldn't surprise me to come along a Punch-out for GBA. I've seen many of the "clasic" GBA games, and I'm an owner of two.

There won't be a Punch Out for GBA, for the simple fact that the system is dead outside of some yearly installment of some redneck game like Cabellas Hunting 2008 or whatever.

DS may see a Punch Out, but dunno how good it would turn out.
