are you happy with your local radio stations?
The side discussion of radio stations in the thread about bands being labelled got me thinking...are you satisfied with the content played on most (or all) of your local radio stations?
Personally, I'm not. I used to listen solely to the local classic rock station, back when they had some variety. Now it seems like every song they play is AC/DC (which I like, but still), Bob Seger, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or Lynyrd Skynyrd, none of which (besides the aforementioned AC/DC) really appeal to me. They also seem to play some songs every day or every other day at least, so they really don't have much variety at all. Even when they play bands I do like, such as Black Sabbath, they'll only play one or two songs by that band, in Sabbath's case I've never heard any songs besides Paranoid and Iron Man on the station. The late night show with Alice Cooper is a little better on variety, but he plays a lot of stuff I've never even heard of, so it doesn't make it much better.
The other station I flip to every now and then is the "modern" rock station, although they do play stuff from the early 90's and sometimes 80's. I almost never hear anything good, although they play some Metallica, but usually from their post-Black Album albums, although they've managed to sneak in Master of Puppets and some others. The station also got me temporarily listening to Shinedown, but I don't really like them as much anymore, so I usually don't bother listening to the station anymore.

Re: are you happy with your local radio stations?
As I said in the other thread, I like the local classic rock station along with most Jazz and Classical stations.
Modern music stations however, completely and utterly suck ass. They play nothing but pop,pop-punk, Emo, Rap-Rock, Nu-Metal, and the occasional Metal-Core. Most if not all of it is absolutely terrible, but most idiots happily gobble up every last audio turd that gets shat out by MTV or radio stations.

I honestly don't listen to the radio as much as I used to. And when I do it's not on a station I like. Most of the time it's country. Which is fine sometimes but... My God, don't they have anything other than Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift?

If I got nothing I want to listen to, I usualy turn to the radio and scan through it, which is VERY rare.
I'm a sucker for '80s rock, so Poision, AC/DC, Metalica, and the like are what I look for.
I also look around for some modern day rock, but I rarely listen to a radio.

Hell-fuckin'-no. Jesus Christ...the shit they play here is complete ass-milk-worthy. Worst music I have ever heard in my life is being played now on the radio. Fuckin' bullshit, if you ask me. Luckily, with my 80 gb MP3 player and my radio adapter, I can listen to my music whenever I want while on the go. It's like listening to the radio, but with actual win music hahah

Re: are you happy with your local radio stations?
I can't stand my local radio stations. We have like maybe 5 or so country stations, a couple of rock and pop stations, a classic rock station and like an oldies station.
Now I live in Michigan, and I don't see why up here in the Upper Peninsula we have so many country stations, I can't stand it. My parents love country and I personally cannot get into it and nor do I plan on it.
My favorite station would be the classic rock or oldies stations. Classic rock around here though is extremely staticky and well overplays many songs. So I really never pay much attention to the radio.
But yeah I'd very much like it if some more interesting stations were put out.

Even still, I'd rather just listen to the music I have. I mean, hell, I have a shit load of music that I've not even heard yet just on account of the fact that I get so much shit coming in everyday (been kinda slow lately, however...). It's always nice finding something nice that I didn't know I had before. It is quite literally like listening to the radio and thus thwarts any reason for listening to the radio or the internet radio.
THOUGH, I will give the internet radio credit when credit is due. If it weren't for it, I would not have discovered Bedouin Soundclash or Tomorrow's Bad Seeds--two of best Reggae acts out now!

Re: are you happy with your local radio stations?
I actually like a lot of older country music, but I can't stand most of the newer stuff being made these days.
Now, if the local Country station played the old stuff...I would be perfectly content on listening.

Lith, what about internet radio? You into that at all, or you just don't bother with that much either?
I'm just curious, because you must have some way of discovering new music.

Not normally any kind of radio. I do net searches every month or so and spend a long time, usually hit myself up with 5-10 new bands that way, +recomendations etc.

I will sometimes listen to the Jazz or classical stations, or even NPR.
Besides that, I really try to avoid most regular radio stations when possible.

Actually, I think almost everyone here would agree with you on that Garret!
Nobody knows your own musical tastes like you do after all, not some mainstream radio DJ.

Re: are you happy with your local radio stations?
I used to be into the so called mainstream music when I was younger, now I'm exploring different genres, and that's just what I plan to do when I get that hefty 500GB HD. But yeah I like different things sometimes.
Re: are you happy with your local radio stations?
I am willing to give almost any kind of music a fair chance, and I like something out of almost every genre of music.
That said, modern mainstream music is terrible.
