How long does it normally take you to read?

Post by Affected heart on Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:36 am

When you find a good book, how long does it take you to read the whole thing? For me, it depends on how into the book I am. The longest it took me to read a book was maybe a week and a half. But the book was Gone with the Wind. But for an average book (which seem to range between 300 and 600 pages, I can read it in 2 days. I don't think it's because I'm a fast reader but the fact that when I get into a story, I don't want to put it down.

I am not sure on my exact speed, but I have no problems finishing like a 500 page book in 1-2 days if I wanted. It really depends on how much time I put into it each day, and how glued I am.

Usually, I only read a book for like half an hour before bed.

Books usually last me a week or so, because most of the time I only pick them up and read them before I go to bed to wind down and get myself in a sleeping mood. I'm usually not so into a book that I can't put it down, that usually only happens with video games, lol.

Oh, I can definitely get addicted to books.

Sometimes i'll intentionally limit how much i'll read per day, just so it will last longer.

I've tried that. Sometimes it works... Others it don't.

I sometimes go with that as well... but it takes me a month or so...

if I go non-stop, I usualy get a good 400, 500 page book done in a day.

Wait... I forgot to add in "If I'm having a good day." I just remembered I read a 450 pager in two days...

I have finished some 500 page books in a day before, but that doesn't happen very often...partly because I don't read enough anymore.

I finished the 5th Harry Potter in seven hours. Wooop.

If I get really into it, I'll either finish in a day, or force myself to space it out a little. Savour the flavour, ya know.

Exactly man!

Sometimes it's a good idea to read a book over a longer period of time, especially if it's something like a collection of short stories (like that James P Blaylock book I have been working on)

Most of the time, it depends on how much time I have. If I'm up at my Grandparents', then I'll usually just find a book and curl up in my bed and it only takes me a few hours to finish it. But when I'm at home and I can actually get online, watch tv, talk to people on the phone, interact with others IRL, then it's a different story. For example, I decided to re-read Twilight, and it took me a good three months to finally finish it, mainly because it was hard for me to get the time to read

It doesn't matter how into the book I am, if I don't have the time to read, I won't read. It took me an entire week to read the 7th HP book when it first came out, partially because when it came out, I was at my dad's and well, they all wanted my attention and wanted me to watch movies with them and blah blah blah.

The best books are the ones you will want to re-read eventually, or that's what I think anyway.

Even if it takes a few years to re-read, the best books should keep you thinking.

It varies.

If I'm really into a book, I can finish it in a very short frame of time. Usually, however, I'm actually a little slow with finishing books. It usually takes me a couple of weeks or so to finish reading them.

I'll easily add onto my previous post that nowadays, it seems as if I'm finding excuses TO read books, instead of finding reasons not to. But, I still don't read when I can't. -nod-
